Trip to Texas - Visit to Fort Concho

I hardly want to share it on my blog because I feel it was such a sober, healing time, an opportunity for the families to walk through Fort Concho and spend Friday and Saturday with their loved ones from other states. Heidi and I felt honored to be invited and included.

It started with some words from Willie, then a video of raid pictures and false allegations that were made, then they showed family pictures and videos of FLDS families playing with their children.

They had a Catholic Bishop speak about healing and coming together. We were invited to say a few words, too.

The families are getting to know us better and are comfortable with taking pictures with us; once you get to know them, they are funny and teasing and not as reserved as they seem on TV. As they are becoming more comfortable, they are more casual, too. They told jokes, and presented cowboy poetry. REALLY! They had a young man stand up and present one of his own poems and it was very good, and entertaining! Then he presented a five minute, multi-stanza poem he'd memorized but didn't write and it was impressive!

We left San Angelo late on Saturday because it was so hard to say goodbye to everyone. We ended up racing back to San Antonio and made it to our plane with about 17 minutes to spare!

Why did you fly out of San Antonio? Heck Austin would have been closer and I think Dallas too! LOL

Cheaper flights. :o)

Plus, I LOVE the river walk.

(Although we did race on in to Coyote Ugly because we thought it was some kind of live theater! duh)

Actually, both Austin and San Antonio are about the same distance from San Angelo (about 205-210 miles). Dallas is much further at about 270 miles.

dallas and austin aren't closer than san antonio. midland would have been my preferred airport.

Yeah maybe they are the same distance in miles, but you can go 80 in I10 on the way to San Antonio and you can't on the way to Austin, so you can actually get to San Antonio quicker.

No offense Mary, but why would they invite you? Your with centinnel park and everyone knows FLDS can't stand centinnel park group.
So, my only explination is propaganda. There is an alterior motive of course, since Centinnel Park wanted to buy Harker Farms for a subdivision from UEPtrust.
It's not hard to put two and two together.

Actually anonymous 5:03, I'm with Principle Voices (www.principlevoices.org), and my organization works with Centennial Park and other fundamentalist Mormon communities. I personally am not a member, though I am honored to call many in the communities (and many who are independents) my friends. :o)

I think I'm fundamentally in agreement with Anonymous's post - this seems like a propaganda exercise as much as anything. And propaganda on behalf of people who still willingly choose to follow a man like Warren Jeffs is propaganda to a very poor purpose.

It's really quite amazing how some people try and put together a picture which is based on their imaginings, despite being faced with the facts in front of them.

Sometimes things are just the way they appear - they're as clear as day if you lift your hands from your face to see them.

Thanks for going down to YFZ Mary, and for dedicating your valuable time to bringing many polygamous communities into the light.
