About the possibility that the verdict might be appealed, Ken Driggs had some interesting comments on NPR's Talk of the Nation. You can hear the interview at

One of his many excellent points is that the audio evidence was obtained in the traffic stop outside Las Vegas, and that evidence gained in that kind of way is far less likely to be successfully appealed than evidence gained in the Texas raid on the compound. Time will tell, but Ken has a great deal of experience with this as a trial attorney. He also has friendships among the FLDS in Hildale/Colorado City.

There are a few of the "add a packet to water" drinks that have no aspartame in them at all. So far, I like the Propel ones best, though they use Splenda and some people dislike that, too (it doesn't seem to have any affect on us, but ... passes through us and enters the water table exactly the same as it entered us... ew...). The other thing I do is keep a bottle of lemon juice in the fridge. I will add two squirts of that and a bit of sugar or honey to a bottle of water, and voila, lemonade that is healthy and delicious. Iced tea is my other personal foible, and you can get organic caffeine free tea bags and make them from that, again adding honey or sugar or stevia to taste. :)

I'm glad the jury did not follow public opinion. The jury had a responsibility to make its own determination and it did. An alternate spoke today and said that he was not persuaded by the prosecution's case. He said that the prosecution did not prove how Caylee died, and he felt it was a "horrific accident" that was "blown out of proportion". I don't accept that; there was NO EVIDENCE for that at all. But if there was insufficient evidence proving Casey killed Caylee, then the jury cannot convict. However, I still believe that finding her remains in a black trash bag and with duct tape proves to me that it was no accident. Dumping her remains in the swamp is not an act of love.

I have immense grief over the loss of that little child, and I am sure part of that sorrow is due to the fact that her own mother did not give a damn, but rather celebrated her freedom.

I feel that it is a miscarriage of justice because SOMETHING miscarried along the way, whether it was an overcharging on the part of the prosecutor, the failure of the police to respond appropriately and early enough to the discovery of the remains so that the evidence would not have been lost with time, or whatever. The miscarriage is that the truth is still lost amidst lies and Casey will walk and feel that SHE was unjustly jailed for the last several years, that HER life was violated, that SHE was the victim of this entire event, rather than her DAUGHTER. That is the miscarriage of justice. The jury may have done what it was designed to do, but that does not mean the system worked the way it should. An innocent person was not vindicated with that verdict. That is the sadness of it all.

Sorry, But I have to disagree. Our Justice System is set up not to punish the guilty but to try and ensure that the innocent are not punished. That's why they are to only return a guilty verdict if they are convinced beyond a reasonable doubt. IF there is ANY doubt, it's a jury's duty to come back with an innocent verdict, which is what they did. I would rather see 10 guilty persons free, than one innocent one sitting in prison. This IS our justice system working the way it's meant to! It would only have been injustice had this jury allowed popular opinion or medial spins to alter their feelings and verdict, which they did not.

The people who write the blogs are usually not the same writers as the programmes. AFAIK, Big Love had one of the better ones, I have read some appalling 'character blogs' which made me question whether the author even WATCHED the shows. Continuity is almost, always a problem with them.

I just HATE to see it end :( Only a few episodes left and I'm missing it already. It makes for good TV. But considering they have a different writer for each episode some of the continuity is off. I mean, no one checked Margie's blog to see what was written years ago about her living in her apartment alone when they met?!? Still is a great show!

Education would solve all of Bountiful's problem's as well as parent's unbiasing their opinion about everything they say. Children should form they're own opinions so they're not relying on somebody else to tell them how to live they're life . if my parent's told me to do something I would do it. Just like they're doing there. The children are doing what they are told and they don't know any different that there is a better life out there. Just like when a girl will clong to her first boyfriend just because it's all she know's and she will hang onto every word he say's. It's called family planning for a reason. One father can not spend and devote his time over 10 children. Don't you think that a woman deserves one man that will devote making they're lives together...who are not light years apart.

I don't have a lot of time to blog right now, and that would be a great blog post, but one that would require some thoughtful dedication and attention. Bottom line is that I am a feminist. That said, I believe it is important that as a feminist I support other women in exercising their rights and freedoms in choosing their paths in life, which includes electing to be career women or stay at home moms, participating in traditional family roles or alternative family roles, and expressing opinions and embracing values that may be very different from my own. I do not believe that for some women to choose to participate in a polygynous family arrangement, whether as part of a religious persuasion or for personal reasons, it somehow harms other women who choose a different path that may be largely accepted as a more "empowered" decision. Who am I to judge one woman's decision over another's, or what might be fulfilling to one woman versus what is fulfilling to another?

Yes, I've read it. The original book was "My Father's House", which I really liked. I was surprised with the updated version because as much as she said she felt she needed to be "more honest", she was less disclosing of her own personal frailties than she was in the first book (which I found to be very human and relatable). She was more willing to be critical of others, including unflattering rumors or things she'd "heard" but not necessarily experienced and didn't really know. So, I would only have picked up on that because I read both books. My sense was that the first book was actually "more honest". But, that said, a person's perspective changes over time. As far as accuracy to Mormonism in general, and her surroundings, the culture, etc,. I think she is a good writer and did a good job.

I am unsure if you would deem this comment suitable for your blog, I do hope that I do not overstep my bounds.

The abuses and destructions that were levied on the FLDS at YFZ, to me, seem to be nothing less than an attempt at religious genocide. The involved anti-plural marriage parties used similar tactics as Hitler used in his attempt at genocide. The FLDS children were abducted from their families and subjected to horrific abuses while in custody and foster "care". The abusers did not make the papers or even get 75 years in prison. It is my opinion that the anti-plural marriage parties involved in this tragedy are happy to inflict upon the FLDS children a form of deviancy that they find acceptable, forcing their deviant abuses on the innocent FLDS children.

The ruling against Mr. Jessop was a clear punishment of his family. It is my opinion that the anti-plural marriage forces are trying to turn his wives into widows, in a manner, and force them into a situation where they may feel the need to seek another husband. I am certain that this result would please the anti-plural marriage sects. They would love to see everyone as deviant as they are.
